Once you have an idea what this principle means to you, find a way to express yourself. Maybe you want to write about it, build a sculpture, act it out, or paint, draw, color your thoughts! I'm hoping for interpretative dance or puppet shows!

Definition Hunt

In the bylaws of the Unitarian Universalist Association, we state:

...the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:

justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.

In RE, we often restate this as

"Offer Fairness and Kindness to one another"

This all sounds great, but do we really know what it means?

For this challenge, let's understand these ideas in a few different ways:

  1. Go look in a dictionary. What do the words "justice," "equity," and "compassion" mean? Are there any fun synonyms that you like?

  2. Have a conversation with a trusted adult about what they think those words mean?

  3. Define them for yourself! Are fairness and kindness the same? Can you think of a time when fairness didn't feel kind? With your adult, act out a time when someone was fair. What would it be like if they weren’t fair? Act out a time when you or someone else was kind. What was it like? What does it feel like to act kindly towards someone? What does it feel like when some one is kind to you?
